1. Set up your account

Step one

Reset your temporary password

Your initial credentials include your new email address and a temporary password. 

Go to aka.ms/initialpw. You can reset your password using any device that's connected to the internet.

(If your temporary password is not valid, ask your manager to reset it at aka.ms/coreidentity. It can be reset only once every 24 hours. After the temporary password is reset, go to aka.ms/initialpw.)

Password guidelines

Your password must be at least eight characters long and contain: 

  • Upper-case letter(s)
  • Lower-case letters
  • Numbers
  • Symbols (~!@#$)

Your password cannot contain:

  • Any previous passwords used at Microsoft
  • Part of your name or title
  • Sequential numbers or letters (111, 123, aaa, abc, etc.)

Step two 

Set up Identity Pass

The Identity Pass application helps to verify a user’s identity before granting them access to corporate resources.

Check out the Identity Pass video tutorial:

  1. Download the Identity Pass application from app store or using the QR code below on your mobile device. Or use URL from your browseraka.ms/KnockKnock

  2. Launch the Identity Pass application by clicking on the icon downloaded on your mobile device.

  3. Allow Identity Pass to access your camera, microphone, and notifications.

  4. Review and Accept Terms & Conditions. Select Yes after reviewing user consent.

  5. Enter your personal email if you have not received your corporate email. Skip this step if you have access to your corporate email on this device. Otherwise, provide a personal email that is accessible on this device to receive notifications. 

  6. Enter your Microsoft corporate email address (alias@microsoft.com), date of birth or, employee ID (Required for vendor, the manager needs to provide this information). Select Submit

  7. Smile, it’s selfie time! Be sure the photo captures your whole face looking straight into the camera. Your selfie will be compared with your Microsoft badge photo and will be deleted after 24 hours. Select Submit

  8. Standby for an incoming video call from your manager (or a delegate). This step must be completed within 24 hours. You will receive a push notification on your phone (please ensure that push notifications are allowed in the Identity Pass application settings), a Microsoft Team notification, and an email notification to join the call with an approver.  

  9. Click the link in one of the above-mentioned notifications to Join the video call with your manager (or delegate) and answer their identity verification questions. Once done select End Call.  

  10. If your request is verified, you will receive a notification to retrieve a Temporary Access Pass (TAP) which is valid for 30 minutes (take note of the actual TAP) and you must set up your mobile device or work computer or Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) in 30 minutes.
